CAMTASIA STUDIO AND VIDEOSCRIBE FOR LECTURE VIDEOS

Flipped classroom is an instructional practice where the roles of instructor and students, as well as the activities inside and outside classroom are ‘flipped’. Although the concept itself is not brand new, it has created a buzz in the last few years since the rapid emergence of online learning tools now tailored for higher education. In a nutshell, lessons and materials are studied outside the classroom mostly in the form of lecture videos and the lecture hours are dedicated for hands-on learning activities. While online lecture video enables ‘anywhere and anytime’ learning, it also suffers from the dryness or lacking of interaction between students and instructor, and among students themselves. In case of a heavy content, the dryness of the video can be more severe. To address this issue, videos can be animated through leveraging an abundance of emerging software. As the author is an active user of Camtasia Studios and Videoscribe, the video clips created from these software will be showcased. The comparison between the two from the user’s perspective will be discussed.
