Abstract:
Background:
All training and assessment activities including formative objective structured clinical exams (F-OSCE) conducted at Center for Advanced Training in Clinical Simulation (ATCS) are video recorded. This study evaluates the effect of reviewing F-OSCE video recordings on the clinical performance of second-year medical students during their summative OSCEs (S-OSCEs).

Methods:
We send invitation to all second-year medical students participated in F-OSCE to review their F-OSCE videos. Students were divided into 2 group according to their willingness to participate: Group A (n=176) reviewed their own F-OSCE videos, but not Group B (n=176). Their scores (10 point-level) of S-OSCE were compared on the two skills: history taking and abdomen examination.

Results:
The mean score of abdomen examination skill in Group A (7.84 ± 1.43) and Group B (7.22 ±1.94), p<0.001, besides that history taking skill in Group A (7.16 ± 1.84) and Group B (6.92 ± 1.75), p=0.21. The Pass rate of abdomen examination skill in Group A was 98.9% (174/176) and Group B was 90.9% (160/176), p<0001, while of history taking skill in Group A was 95.5% (168/176) and Group B was 91.5% (161/176), p=0.05.

Conclusion:
The review F-OSCE videos promoted self-reflective learning of medical students, helped them to recognize their strengths and weaknesses. It was useful to enhance medical students’ clinical performance during examination S-OSCEs. In addition, it is necessary to provide more examination F-OSCE videos, such as heart and lung examination skills.
