THE ROLE OF SPORTS VOLUNTEERING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF RUSSIAN STUDENTS

Abstract:
Introduction:
Volunteer movement has been developing rapidly over the last ten years. 2018 was declared the "Year of Volunteering" by the President of Russia. International sports events, such as the Olympic Games in Sochi (2014), the World Cup (2018) and the International Universiade in Krasnoyarsk (2019) contribute to the development and popularization of sports volunteering. To train volunteers in accordance with international standards, a network of resource volunteer centers has been established in Russia. These centrers often operate on the basis of large Russian universities. High requirements for volunteers of international events ensure the involvement of the country's of leading universities' students in this movement. Thus, students provide the development of sports volunteering, and the experience of sports volunteerism determines the development of Russian students. The purpose of this article is to identify the specifics of the personal development of students who have experience of participating in various activities as sports volunteers.
Methodology:
The article is based on the materials of the Urals Federal District's students survey. In the study, the students' assessments of 19 universities of the macroregion were analyzed, in each of which the organization of students' volunteer activities is established. Volunteering centers in nine universities are one of the priority areas. The quota sample was formed on the basis of statistical data on the number of students in the universities of the Ural Federal District. Within each region, quotas were administered in the areas of training. The sample size (students of 3-4 courses) - 1860 people. The article reveals the degree of university students' involvement in various types of volunteer activity; specifics of sports volunteer activity are determined; peculiarities of young volunteers-students of UFO universities with experience of sports volunteering are revealed.
Results:
Analysis of the survey data showed that:
1. Sports volunteering in the student environment of the Ural universities is one of the most common types of volunteering.
2. Students who have experience of sports volunteering are more often involved in event-based volunteering than other students.
3. Students with the experience of sports volunteering spend more of their free-time on volunteer work than students involved in other types of volunteering.
4. The experience of sports volunteering allows students of UFO institutions to adapt well to the conditions of a "fluid", constantly changing living environment.
Conclusions:
Sports volunteerism in its nature promotes the popularization of volunteer activities in the youth environment. It is quite popular due to its features and often reflects not only the motivation of students to be involved in major world events, but also contributes to their personal development. Sports volunteering requires some effort, students must undergo a complex procedure of selection and training, they spend more time on training in their direction. Sports volunteering requires high level of involvement, it is associated with great psychoemotional stress, considerable capacity for work, communication, discipline and responsibility.Keywords:
