Abstract:
In this session participants will learn the importance of leadership planning, continued support, and professional development in order to effectively implement a 1:1 technology initiative where teachers can model 21st Century learning and global citizenship and students can actively participate in learning.

While introducing any new technology initiative in a school district, the importance of the pedagogical approach, administrative support and teacher training on the technology is vital.

The historical overview of technology in education, shows that “teacher resistance” continually occurs when implementing any new technology tool (Tyler, 1975). Research also shows that students’ school experiences with technology are largely dictated by their teachers (Shapley et al., 2010).

Deeply rooted teacher beliefs and their own experiences as students may limit their ability to embrace the constructivist approach necessary to maximize the potential for technology in the learning environment.

This session will not only share research on the importance of implementation of a 1:1 Technology Initiative but will also share the importance of "why" a school should do so in order to prepare their students to compete in our global world.
