N. Perfilieva, N. Novospasskaya

RUDN University (RUSSIAN FEDERATION)
Traditionally in the Russian Federation one can obtain higher education only in the Russian language. Currently, Russian and foreign students also have the opportunity to finish the master's degree program in English. In the article, we would like to present the master's program "Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (in English)" as a new experience in organizing the educational process in the RUDN University.

In the recent 5 years new trends in Russian higher education have emerged in teaching theoretical and practical disciplines that is due to the large number of foreign students wishing to continue master's programs in English, since they do not speak Russian.
At present, students who have completed bachelor's programs not in Russia and do not speak Russian sufficiently in order to continue their master studies have the opportunity to be taught in English at the master's programs at RUDN University.

The article deals with the organization of the educational process and educational programs, in particular "Theoretical and Applied Linguistics", opened at the Faculty of Philology 6 years ago. During this period the master's degree in English was completed by students from Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, Turkmenistan, Syria, Yemen, Greece, Armenia, Jordan.

The master's program "Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (in English)" in addition to the courses in English also includes courses in Russian, in particular, the communicative course of the Russian language and the Russian business, the goal of which is the socio-cultural adaptation of undergraduates in a foreign environment.

MA Degree Program “Theoretical and Applied Linguistics” (in English) is presented by a complex of classroom courses and programs according to the Russian Federal State Educational Standard. MA Degree Program includes Educational-methodic Complex. In the article we describe content, structure and interaction of compulsory course “Linguistic Semantics” as an example of teaching in MA Degree Program “Theoretical and Applied Linguistics”. The methodological background is fully represented by theoretic works and semantic studies: from the first decades of the 20th century till nowadays, mainly by European and American scholars. The Educational-methodic Complex includes lecture course, glossary of main terms and notions, tasks for self-studies, test and training tasks; list of final evaluation questions, etc. All courses in MA Degree Program are structured on the so-called “matreshka” principle: from more general informative to more detailed or specific one and vice versa.
