Abstract:
The success rate of statistics courses in the first year of social sciences is usually relatively poor. However, during the pandemic, it was observed that this success rate increased to levels more in line with what would be expected from the basic training that students acquired from high school. These results show that innovation and the application of technology-based teaching methodologies to improve students’ self-learning are needed.
During the last academic year, that is 2021/2022, the statistics students with degrees in Business Administration, Tourism and Labour Relations and Human Resources, from the University of Cordoba (Spain), were proposed to carry out a series of questionnaires and Moodle lessons, during the course, through a specific subject available in the Virtual Campus of the University of Cordoba (Spain), with the possibility of using the forums, as well as, the realization of partial tests and a final exam that serves as a reference, to study the existing correlations. With this experience, an attempt was made to assess the efficacy and influence of the questionnaires and lessons that the students conducted independently. This work discusses the details and numerical results of the experience with the students of the degrees mentioned above. Subsequently, the typology of the proposed activities is explained and the success of the proposed methodology is verified.
