IMPROVING ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE THROUGH TUTORING: END-OF-DEGREE-PROJECT IN PUBLIC MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION DEGREE

The end-of-degree-project is a complex task where the undergraduate student has to integrate the concepts, contents, knowledge, procedures, and skills that she has been working through her studies. We’ve decided to explore the tutoring process of the end-of-degree-project in order to improve academic performance, ranging from increasing the number of projects delivered to the rising of the grades received. A survey to the students was prepared so that their needs could be detected. A questionnaire for the tutors was also prepared to identify their perceptions about the tutoring process. From the results obtained in both tools, a tutoring guide – aimed to the tutors, but with relevant information for the students – was outlined and discussed in a workshop. This guide is structured around five blocks: explaining the end-of-degree-project, tutor choice, end-of-degree-project proposal, tutorial sessions and results analysis. By using this guide in the next academic course, a positively influence in the tutoring of the projects is expected and, therefore, an improvement in the academic performance of students
