Abstract:
The University of Barcelona (UB), due to the pandemic COVID situation during the year 2020/2021, promoted the adaptation of certain contents to virtual teaching format. This is the case of the practical classes of the subject of Physiology and Pathophysiology II in the degree of Pharmacy at the UB.

With this objective, two face-to-face sessions in the laboratory that were aimed to demonstrate the “Intestinal transport of nutrients”, were adapted to a first and preparative online session (including all the theoretical part) followed by a second face-to-face one (including all the laboratory work).

For that, the contents to work, structured in four different sections, were adapted as a compilation of contents (text, images and videos) followed by several activities: V/F test, correlations, etc. These activities were organized as “Lesson” and implemented in the Virtual Campus (Moodle) of the subject. The session was synchronic, involving autonomous but also guided learning. After the second day in the laboratory and the evaluation of the practical classes, the students responded a short survey about the experience. It included four questions about difficulty, utility, dedication, and content.

More than 350 students carried out the practical classes on “Intestinal transport of nutrients” and answered the final survey on the online session. The students considered that the content difficulty was appropriate, as they scored such variable with a 4.50 [in a 1-10 scale from where 1 was the minimum and 10 the maximum]. Regarding the utility of the tools used and the guide of the teacher in the session, the students scored it with a mean score of 7.23 [in a 1-10 scale]. In addition, students considered that the duration of the session and the load of content was appropriated to the aim as they scored both questions with a 5.85 and 5.68 [in a 1-10 scale], respectively.

It can be concluded that the adaptation of this practical class to the virtual environment has been performed satisfactorily, although both -students and teachers- prefer the face-to-face classes.
