Abstract:
Since the entry into force of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), different innovative and interactive teaching techniques have been developed and implemented with the aim of increasing student performance. In this context, cooperative learning or gamification techniques can be used to improve student motivation, promote better learning and increase enjoyment of the learning experience. This paper describes how different gamification techniques like student response systems (SRS) using clickers or individual competition via e-mail, as well as a cooperative learning technique like the Jigsaw Classroom were used in Business Management subject. This subject is taught in the first year of the Mechanical Engineering Degree of Defense University Center at the Spanish Naval Academy. The results of each technique were analyzed and an opinion survey on them was completed by the students. Thus, the positive aspects and the main limitations of each technique were identified and are presented in this study.
