Abstract:
Environmental awareness in the automotive industry is a fundamental pillar for steering this sector towards sustainability and reducing its ecological impact. With the rise of environmental consciousness and stricter regulations, automotive companies are transitioning towards more sustainable practices, driven by technological innovation and the demand for more efficient and less polluting vehicles. This shift not only responds to a responsibility towards the environment but also aligns with the expectations of increasingly informed and demanding consumers regarding the sustainability of the products they purchase.

The methodological approach of this research encompassed a review of specialized literature in the databases of Web of Science, Scopus, and Ebsco, complemented by the analysis of successful cases from leading companies in the automotive industry that have implemented notable sustainable practices. Through this approach, the aim was to understand the current trends, emerging technologies, and business strategies that contribute to environmental sustainability in the sector. Additionally, meetings were held with Automotive Engineering students from ESIME Ticomán of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional - Mexico to capture the vision of future professionals in the field regarding the importance and challenges of incorporating environmental considerations into their professional practice.

The findings of this research highlight the importance of integrating environmental awareness at all levels of the automotive industry, from the design and production of vehicles to their use and eventual recycling. An increasing focus on the development of electric vehicles, improving the efficiency of internal combustion engines, the use of lighter and recyclable materials, and the implementation of advanced energy management systems was observed. These innovations seek not only to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants but also to optimize resource use and minimize the environmental impact throughout the vehicle's lifecycle.
