Abstract:
Introduction:
This research is part of interdisciplinary university-wide project Vita Plus. This study is designed and conducted by sociological and educational team within the project. The study focuses on examining the current dispositions and attitudes that university students possess concerning issues related to conservation and sustainable use of water and other natural resources, and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of their utilization. It aims to test their sensitivity to environmental issues and explore dispositions in areas that will be the basis for developing a supportive society environment and building an expert workforce.
Methodology:
The methods of research are quantitative online survey using google forms and interview. The survey includes three types of questions, namely Demographic Question, Multiple Choice Questions and Likert Scale Question. The interview contain short open-ended questions and information exchange takes place in real time during online meetings. The results of the survey are statistically processed.
University students totally 412, took part in the research during summer and winter semester of 2021 year. The choice of university students as the main target group is determined by several factors:
1) their consumer habits are not yet fully formed;
2) the young people are the ones who will be directly affected tomorrow by today's growing environmental problems;
3) the environmental attitudes they possess are a powerful predictor of ecological behavior.
As global attention to environmental issues grows with each passing year, it is important for us to establish the attitude and level of awareness of students in the pedagogical, social, and human sciences about the state of the environment and water. The choice of students with the described professional profile is determined by the fact that they are future teachers, experts and analysts who will have as their main task and responsibility to form specific attitudes of adolescents to environmental and water issues, that is to form what we call a ‚green habitus‘.
Results and conclusions:
The large number of students who chose to participate in the study is proof that they appreciate the importance and feel confident to express attitudes about conservation; sustainable, and equitable use of the benefits arising out of the utilization of natural resources. The analysis and comparison of the collected data show that the study population understands the value of water and other natural resources and defines them as national capital. The full text provides a detailed analysis and interpretation of the data according to essential criteria. The data collected through the interview conducted with 20% of the participants serve to prove or disprove the correlation between the expressed attitudes and their actual environmental behavior, demonstrated, through their consumer choices and decisions. In conclusion, the respondents express the right attitudes and values, but need support and training to ensure their transformation into effective ecological behavior.Keywords:
