Abstract:
Simulation based training to promote ability in dealing with aggression and violence in the healthcare setting. We would like to present about our EU project (Erasmus+ Key Action 2 (KA2) Partnerships 2023 to 2025) – please see website: https://simprena.eu/ The partnership for this project cooperated in two previous EU funded Erasmus+ KA2 Partnerships: Safemedic and Storyaid. The Safemedic focused on the development of an educational course which results in an increase in the conflict management skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals: https://www.safemedic.eu/. The Storyaid project explored a new model of healthcare training and developed a coursebook, learning videos and an interactive lecture https://storyaid.eu/.

The use of simulations provides health care students with opportunities to practice their clinical and decision-making skills through various real-life situational experiences. The SimPRENA project aims to provide teachers and students with simulation package tools; selected simulation scenarios with real actors to assist in improving their capability to cope with violent behaviour in the healthcare environment and foster a safe environment for both patients and staff. Nursing and paramedic studies requires complex combinations of knowledge, performance, skills and attitudes to provide care to the patients. The project outcomes aim to help in developing self-confidence among students by assisting students to make the link between theory and practice and increase their ability to deal with violence in their work environment. As a result of role playing, it will help in the development of critical thinking skills by students and teachers (to understand how simulation can help them).

The multilevel e-learning platform is available at https://simprena.eu/platform.It is composed of 18 simulations. There are 15 simulations + simulations 1, 2, and 13 have their “B” versions that put more focus on paramedics. All simulations were structured into 6 thematic areas: ensuring personnel and patient safety, improving conflict resolutions skills, enhancing communication skills, building emotional resilience, understanding patient behaviour, and ethical consideration. Each simulation follows the same scheme, starting with an introduction that sets the scene, followed by theoretical background that adds further explanations to the specific setting. Users are welcome to use the exercises before they watch the videos and/or interactive videos (depending on the simulation). Further information and resources that can be used to implement simulation in training are available in the sections: role-play cards, facilitator’s notes, and extra resources. In addition, a training manual for teachers and a user guide were prepared, which adds additional information on how to get most out of the platform in vocational setting.
