Abstract:
Spatial visualization is defined as a key skill for the interpretation and creation of technical drawings in engineering and as such, the factors that influence it and how it can be trained have been explored. Several researchers have developed different tools that facilitate the development of this capacity, but often, the tool without a didactic context is not so effective to fulfill its objective.

To this end, an open-source augmented reality app has been developed to facilitate visualization. This application provides a library of parts that can be displayed in 3D through devices with an Android operating system. For effective use, a proposal has been made to integrate the tool into an active learning environment. As an example of integration, the Pairs-check technique of cooperative learning has been adapted. In this technique, students work in pairs to solve problems and by following the think-aloud method they make the resolution process visible beyond the mere obtaining of the result.

The augmented reality app provides support in the process while students discuss strategies for obtaining the solution.
