Abstract:
The article explores the possibilities for increasing the efficiency of the educational institutions by automating and digitizing certain processes and activities that are time and cost consuming both to the providers (universities) and to the recipients (students) of the educational services. With the development of a knowledge-based economy, the role of the creative work will increase progressively, and much of the routine activities and processes will be automated through the use of appropriate systems for managing and implementing artificial intelligence elements in the administrative and teaching activities.
A specific implementation of the way of transforming the procedure for enrolment of students in higher education by electronic means is considered, while increasing the transparency of the process and reducing the corresponding costs and time resources. An analysis has been made of both the effectiveness of each individual step and the improvement of the entire enrolment cycle, while enhancing the security of the personal data exchange, following the latest trends in GDPR and related legislation.
A typical procedure is described for identifying routine processes and activities at the university that can be successfully transformed electronically, with an emphasis on the role of IT leadership in launching such an initiative in an operational manner. An appropriate strategy is proposed to impose the necessary management decisions for the digital transformation of education and the stages it should go through in order to have a positive and long-lasting effect. Possible mistakes that should be avoided have been identified, as well as factors that may have a beneficial effect on the gradual and controlled implementation of the new technological achievements in the university environment. Keywords:
