Abstract:
We live in a society where human resource development is a key area in improving the quality of corporate potential in the labour market. The role of emotions in improving employee performance is at the forefront of the effective leader's mind, who can use them to influence not only performance motivation but also the work climate and employee satisfaction. The role of emotionality is crucial not only in terms of perceiving and navigating one's own emotions but also managing and controlling them for success. A transformational leader's essential work is building a relationship between the leader and his/her followers, which can be a protective factor in increasing job satisfaction and overall life satisfaction. The present study aims to reveal the relationships between transformational leadership, performance motivation and job or overall life satisfaction. At the same time, we aim to analyse the possible predictive effect of transformational leadership on the performance motivation of teachers in Slovak schools. The research sample comprised 138 teachers working at different school levels in Slovakia. We measured Transformational leadership with the Leader Behaviour Inventory (LPI, Kouzes & Posner, 2012), life satisfaction with the Life Satisfaction Questionnaire (LSQ, Fahrenberg et al., 2001; translation Rodný & Rodná, 2001), and performance motivation with the Performance Motivation Questionnaire (LMI, Schuler & Prochaska; translation and adaptation by Hoskovcová, 2003). In addition, SPSS software was used to process the research data. The study has a comparative-correlational design. Our findings show a positive relationship between transformational leadership, employees' life (and job) satisfaction and performance motivation. The regression analysis results equally indicate the impact of transformational leadership on teachers' performance motivation. For example, a leader in a school who can create a positive work atmosphere with his/her personality can lead his/her employees to greater job satisfaction and better job performance.
