Abstract:
The aim of this work is to realize a reflection on the competences and attitudes that a university teacher must possess as an education professional.
The new European Higher Education Area advises the development curricular for competences and, therefore, to plan the suitable formation to the professional social and personal needs of the students, for which is necessary a deep renovation of the beginnings and the values inherent in the educational practice in the university environment.

In this way, it is necessary to establish the concept of competence as a model exceeding the qualification and that includes knowledge, skills and individual attitudes for the professional performance and to face to the challenges of the competitiveness.
A competent person is someone that acts of effective form in a certain moment, by choosing and using a set of resources so much personal (knowledge, be able to do, qualities, culture, emotional intelligence, etc.) as external resources (information banks, IT networks, suitable specialists, etc.).

Taking into account the above, the university teacher must possess the suitable competences, between which the following ones can be mentioned:
- Responds with their knowledge to the needs of the students to acquire the competences in which the corresponding area has some influence.
- Knows the different methodologies of teaching and learning in the university and he uses in every situation the most suitable one.
- Possesses the knowledge, skills and attitudes for the effective accomplishment of the diagnosis and the evaluation of the students.
- Follows the advances of the knowledge both in the corresponding discipline and in the related areas.
- Prepares material and methodological resources for the development of the curriculum, both in an equipment of its knowledge area and in a multidisciplinary equipment associated with the corresponding degree.
- Is motivated both by the matter and by the group of students for the one that develops the educational process, including a high degree of empathy with his components.
- Knows in every moment the future professional needs of the students and adapts the contents and methods of the discipline to these needs.
- Bears in mind the impact that factors as the internationalization, the multiculturalism and the disabilities have in the curriculum of the students, and includes them in the educational guides.
- Is scrupulously ethical, that is to say, expires with the contractual duties, and he justly valuates to the others.

Taking into account the indicated competences to the university teacher, I think he must constantly demonstrate, between others, the following attitudes:
- Self-esteem of his teacher condition.
- Estimation of the students.
- Objectivity in the evaluation processes.
- Motivation for a lifelong education.
- Positive assessment of the psychological and pedagogic resources that help to reinforce the aptitude to communicate the knowledge and to motivate to the students to "learning to learn ".

Along this work, to determine the profile of a good university teacher, a deep reflection about these and other competences and attitudes is done.
