Abstract:
The article deals with students of a Czech university of the study programme Travel and Tourism and their mathematical skills depending on different assumptions.

The decreasing level of knowledge of mathematics is the problem in higher education not only in the Czech Republic. We present here some supporting activities of the university to help students to obtain the significant knowledge of the mathematics from the secondary schools that not all students achieve. We study the impact of these activities on the success of students in the math exam.

We compare the success rate of students in two tests, which they have to pass during one semester. We compare the full-time study form students. Results of exams depend on the secondary school they have studied as well as on their study activity during the semester. We monitored their activities in the E-Learning. In addition, we focused on students who enrolled in this course for the second time.

This article is a continuation of our previous research, where we were wondering what the connection between the input knowledge of mathematics skills and types of secondary schools was. We investigated some factors affecting the level of knowledge of mathematics between the students of the study programme “Finance and Management”. We focused on the type of the secondary school, on the passing the leaving-exam from the mathematics and on the possibility that the students had passed Math seminar yet. In addition, we discussed the results of the test from mathematics between the students of the study programme “Travel and tourism”. The aim was focused on the differences between the scores of students of different secondary schools and in addition, we observed the effect of the prepare activities of our college on test results.

In this article we continue with students of the study programme “Travel and tourism” and we focused on their success depending on the type of secondary schools and in addition on the e-learning activity during the semester.
For testing independence of two categorical variables we use Chi-square test of independence and the correlation test. We do the analyses with the significance level 5 %.
