Retirement is configured as a threshold in the individuals’ life, its significance for those who were used to define their usefulness through the terms of the profession sometimes takes them by surprise.
Generically speaking, the attitude towards the time of retirement depends on socio-economic status of the person concerned, the type of debate, the health at retirement, and/or the type of individual behavior. Individual personality is a critical determinant in the adaptation to retirement, it represents the central point around which to organize other variables adjustment. The situation of the education system in Romania is now the hallmark of much economic fears that go over not only through our country but over the entire world. In addition, the educational system in Romania is going through a reform which in recent years hasn’t shown cohesion in terms of objectives, institutions and processes, fact that has been translated by delaying the completion of a proper educational system fit to the demands of a market economy. On the other hand, we can say that has happened also positive things that have allowed the actors in education systems to be they teachers or students, students to develop, to progress. Material resources allocated to schools have sometimes been insufficient and have created insuffiency, despite teachers’ and students’ attempts. However, in the last two years the budget for education has managed to get closer to the European average, but is still far from the resources used by developed countries in the European Union.
In this context, the demarche focuses on the perceptions of Romanian retired teachers’ life quality, becoming a work theme with strong repercussives both in educational and social field.
