LIFE’S QUALITY PERCEPTIONS ON RETIRED TEACHERS IN ROMANIA

Abstract:
Human actor’s life after retirement is a matter of extreme importance in contemporary society, profiled like element in the formation of responsible social participation. Retirement is configured as a threshold in the individuals’ life, its significance for those who were used to define their usefulness through the terms of the profession sometimes takes them by surprise.
Generically speaking, the attitude towards the time of retirement depends on socio-economic status of the person concerned, the type of debate, the health at retirement, and/or the type of individual behavior. Individual personality is a critical determinant in the adaptation to retirement, it represents the central point around which to organize other variables adjustment. In traditional societies, people of high status of the third age was justified by honor and respect given by young individuals. In such societies elderly’s contribution to the development of the community and the degree of control over resources were two of the factors that could indicate the status of honored formula.
In modern societies such things are perceived, and change the information and communication technologies lead to a reduction which is a loss of control over resources. Life after retirement as it is perceived by the actors involved in this process has a wide variety of light and reflection of previous occupation, educational level and social climate that bring strong imprint on people.
Studies of specialized disciplines - medicine, psychopathology, etc. gerontology. - Define and creates complex phenomena area that print continuous and irreversible changes in the body during the second half of life, attracting the attention that all this leads to a decreased ability to adapt to the environment and to increase the vulnerability of the individuals to the disturbances from outside.
Life after retirement, however, remains a feature of the modern society, which in theory engage a longer existence of the individuals.
The situation of the education system in Romania is now the hallmark of much economic fears that go over not only through our country but over the entire world. In addition, the educational system in Romania is going through a reform which in recent years hasn’t shown cohesion in terms of objectives, institutions and processes, fact that has been translated by delaying the completion of a proper educational system fit to the demands of a market economy. On the other hand, we can say that has happened also positive things that have allowed the actors in education systems to be they teachers or students, students to develop, to progress. Material resources allocated to schools have sometimes been insufficient and have created insuffiency, despite teachers’ and students’ attempts. However, in the last two years the budget for education has managed to get closer to the European average, but is still far from the resources used by developed countries in the European Union.
In this context, the demarche focuses on the perceptions of Romanian retired teachers’ life quality, becoming a work theme with strong repercussives both in educational and social field.
