Abstract:
This paper focuses on analyzing the results that are obtained from a diagnostic test about mathematics skills for students enrolled for Mathematics courses in the degrees which are assigned to the Faculty of Business at the beginning of the academic year 2015/2016. In order to perform the analysis, we have take into consideration the different ways of access to University studies for students because we want to find out some correlation between these ways and the basic mathematics skills which are available for our students when they are admitted into a university degree. In this regard, we have distinguished between Advanced Vocational Training Qualifications and High School Diplomas as ways of access, dividing the latter by using three categories: Science-Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, according to students’ orientation during High School. In addition, we have also analyzed the appropriateness for each question in the diagnostic test in relation with the mathematics topics to be studied for our students during their first academic year.
