Abstract:
The management and treatment of emergencies remains a challenge for nursing staff. The speed and time pressure of emergency situations can make managing and treating cases a constant hurdle for nursing staff. Clinical pathways that provide structured care plans for specific conditions provide a valuable framework. However, there is a gap in nursing education when it comes to comprehensively covering clinical pathways, both in terms of theoretical foundations and practical implementation. This lack of targeted training may impact nurses' ability to use these pathways effectively in high-pressure situations to effectively manage emergency cases.
To achieve its full potential, integrating clinical pathways into nursing education is essential. To this end, nursing education must include new learning methods and technologies. This could include interactive simulation tools and scenario-based training that incorporate clinical pathways. These novel approaches can create a more engaging and effective learning experience that would not only help consolidate core knowledge but also improve nurses' decision-making skills and ability to effectively apply clinical pathways in the high-pressure environment of emergency care.
The present article explores a novel pedagogical model proposed by the AGILITY project for training paediatric nurses on specific care pathways. The model combines theoretical training with simulation-based learning targeting the practical implementation of the clinical pathway: scenario-based exercises that emulate relevant real-life clinical experiences (e.g. short scenarios based on real life cases) and a simulation application that emulates real-life decision making. The article discusses the scope and benefits of this approach. Keywords:
