Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to highlight the extent and the way in which globalization has affected the education sector. Teachers interact with the trend of globalization as they are the ones who prepare their students to meet the new challenges associated with it. The trend towards globalization, both in general and in education in particular, is a dynamic and complex process which results from the interaction of people, ideas and cultural characteristics. It should in no way be seen as a means of imposing homogeneity and abolishing specific characteristics from the top down. The long-term impact of globalization on education can have both positive and negative effects.
This study focuses on the Greek educational system and aims to highlight the way of managing the new conditions that have emerged from the globalization trend in the field of education and the challenges that arise from it. This research was based on the collection of data from teachers at all levels of the Greek educational system through the use of a structured questionnaire. The results obtained lead to useful conclusions on whether the Greek educational system meets the needs of the time. Also, in the same context, we seek an answer to the question whether Greece develops its own national approach to the updating and modernization of its educational system or applies horizontal educational policies derived from policies promoted by the European Union and UNESCO.
