Abstract:
This study has as its main objective, to highlight the extent and the way in which the phenomenon of multilingualism and intercultural education have been integrated in today's modern societies with the aim of both promoting and defending human rights and supporting the existence and development of a democratic civilization. This study takes place in the context of the European Union and the Council of Europe, whose essential mission is to promote and protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The importance of multilingual and intercultural education for democratic civilization is of great interest. Multilingual and intercultural education contributes to the development of mutual understanding between peoples, mutual appreciation of cultural diversity and the preservation of European civilization. In the remainder of the study, we will focus on the Greek case, exploring the adaptation of Greece as a country of the European Union to all that the statutory texts provide for, while at the same time an attempt will be made to outline Greek educational policy regarding the introduction of foreign language teaching in the Greek educational system.
