Abstract:
The current changes in the industry are linked to the digitalisation of processes and are marked by the period of the fourth industrial revolution, referred to as "Construction industry 4.0" for the construction industry. The pace of progress in the construction industry is rapid and irreversible. It brings with it demands for new job skills and the shaping of new jobs. There is a growing need for a highly skilled workforce. This requires, from the position of an educational institution, a change in the way of education oriented towards its improvement.

As a response to the real requirement of practice to increase the knowledge and skills of graduates of civil engineering faculties in the field of introduction and use of digital technologies in the design, planning, production and maintenance of buildings, a project was created, which is supported by the KEGA agency. The aim of the project is to innovate the teaching process in selected professional subjects in the first and second level of higher education at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University in Kosice (SvF TUKE). The main objective of the project is to increase the level of professional knowledge, creativity, communication and management skills, critical thinking and key competences, which will improve the graduate's profile and offer new career paths.

The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education plays a key role in providing new and innovative forms of support for teachers and students in the learning process. In the project, the process will be carried out by changing established teaching methods, making wider use of ICT and available student licenses for software products, as well as moving towards a better use of Learning Management System (LMS) tools within TUKEmoodle. Within the project solution, the transfer of knowledge from the field of digitalization of construction and BIM modelling into the curriculum will be mediated; a virtual library of 3D models of construction structural elements, objects and site equipment will be completed; a repository of student projects solved in the BIM platform software will be created for use in the educational process; a repository of case studies on the use of digital technologies in different phases of the construction life cycle will be activated; classrooms will be equipped with hardware and software resources for solving virtual reality problems.

The main aim of the project is to promote the attractiveness and quality of education at SvF TUKE with a focus on the introduction of digital technologies into the teaching process.

The implementation of the project will result in a skilled workforce that smart construction practice needs.
