NONFORMAL PEDAGOGICAL ROLES OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: ORIENTATION TO STUDENTS’ SUCCESS

Abstract:
In the context of significant transformations in higher education in Russia, educational practices must change because of social needs to improve quality education. University teachers' nonformal approaches are essential in student success. Some part of university teaches tries new, more effective methods. They can realize their activity in different ways. As a result, it increases changes in educations results and quality education. The research purpose is to study the roles of teachers based on their ideas about their priorities in teaching and opportunities to impact students' success.

Research goals:
1. Study the features of the nonformal roles of university teachers in conditions of social uncertainty;
2. Explore the features of types of university teachers' roles;
3. Analysis of how the roles of teachers are related to student success.

Method:
Focus groups with students (n = 5), expert interviews with university teachers, parents of students and employers (n = 20) in the Sverdlovsk region.

Results:
1. The pedagogical role is viewed as a relatively stable structure, built depending on the priorities of teachers' activities. They include the value priorities of teachers, their ideas about the goals of professional training, their use of appropriate pedagogical methods.
2. The typology of roles is based on subjective ideas about the priorities of professional activities and the perception of the students' success and use of pedagogical methods.

"Professional self-realization". Student success is like successful integration into professional activity. The key specificity of the pedagogical role is supporting independent scientific, innovative, practical activities of students.

"Academic achievements". The success of students means their competence, work performed, projects. The specificity of the role lies in the involvement of students in various types of educational activities, projects and.

"Educational participation". The success of a student means motivation, interest in knowledge, activity, initiative. The role is associated with activating students' academic motivation, forming a positive image of the relevant field of expertise and profession.

"Adaptation". Student success is students' behaviour following educational norms. The meaning of the pedagogical role lies in adapting students to the educational process, contributing to their assimilation of basic academic requirements.

3. The pedagogical roles can influence on following educational practices of students.
1. Self-realization in activities close to the future profession.
2. Development of educational resources and competencies related to the future profession.
3. Formation of positive educational values, the image of future professional activities.
4. Mastering educational ethics, responsibility, skills, rules of educational activity.

The impact of teaching roles on student performance is relative, fulfil its limited function. Teachers usually perform their roles intuitively, focusing only on a subset of the students. The approaches are optimal for student success when they take into account students' differences and needs. Otherwise, each of the implemented pedagogical roles can become a condition for the academic failure of a specific group of students.
