Abstract:
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education continues to transform learning and teaching practices across disciplines, including the field of computer science and, more specifically, algorithms. This paper focuses on the impacts of advanced language models, particularly ChatGPT (a GPT-4 based model developed by OpenAI) on algorithm teaching.

Initially, the paper establishes the theoretical framework, explaining the concepts of language models, focusing on the mechanism of ChatGPT, and the relevance of algorithm teaching in present science and research.

The following is an investigation into the impact of ChatGPT on students. We assess various aspects, including student engagement, comprehension of algorithmic concepts, and the challenges faced. Examples of how ChatGPT could be utilized as a tool for teaching algorithms are explored, as are the potential drawbacks and limitations of such a system.

Similarly, we examine the impacts on lecturers and teachers, discussing how ChatGPT could transform the pedagogical practices in algorithm teaching. This includes some potential benefits, like time efficiency and improved delivery of concepts, and possible negatives, such as the need for teachers and lecturers to comprehend the workings of ChatGPT to fully utilize it in their teaching. An interesting topic is then the detection of plagiarism.

Finally, the findings are discussed in context, and recommendations are given on how ChatGPT could be effectively incorporated into the algorithm teaching. This study is significant for better understanding the transformative potential and challenges of AI tools like ChatGPT in algorithm education, offering meaningful insights that may guide their effective integration.
