Abstract:
The GreenPol – Centre of Excellence in European Green Deal Policies project responds to the urgent challenges of climate change and the European Green Deal by modernising doctoral education in three key domains: EU Cohesion and Energy Policy, Food Security under climate change, and Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency. Based on a documented needs analysis, the project addresses significant gaps in existing PhD curricula, particularly the lack of interdisciplinary knowledge on EU energy transition, sustainable agri-food systems, and technological innovation. GreenPol develops three new specialised courses, integrates expertise from the Faculties of EU Studies, Biotechnology and Food Sciences, and the Technical Faculty, and uses an innovative e-learning platform to broaden accessibility and enhance learning flexibility. This paper presents the project’s rationale, pedagogical design, interdisciplinary methodology, digital learning tools, and expected impact on higher education, research capacity, and regional sustainable development. The study also reflects on the role of Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence in shaping green transition competencies and preparing future experts for a climate-resilient Europe. Keywords:
