Abstract:
Language-learning settings have acknowledged the importance of vocabulary acquisition. Teachers and researchers have focused their attention on studying different strategies to enhance vocabulary. Nevertheless, what teachers used to do in classrooms, targeting this area of language, has shifted abruptly due to technological development. The use of mobile in class and the open access to the Internet in college campuses have given opportunity to experience new methods of learning. Mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) allows the creation of new opportunities to enhance vocabulary development and motivate learners.

This pretest-posttest study evidences the influence of a passive and active recognition activity with nouns. These two types of recognition activities were presented to students through a link, which they had to complete in their mobiles. This study was conducted inside foreign language classrooms as a complementary activity to learn vocabulary. This study provides promising results, suggesting that word recognition as a complementary tool improves vocabulary acquisition in adults.
