Abstract:
Modelling and simulation are exceptional tools for representing and later examining real world phenomena. Besides the mentioned characteristics it can also be a useful in teachers’ hands presenting various topics. Running simulations usually require special software which is justified for more serious models and professional usage. In case of educational usage and simpler models these sophisticated tools are not necessary. Just like many countries, in Slovakia Microsoft Office educational license enables the use of Microsoft Excel for schools, and students. This and similar spreadsheet software may be clear solutions for the mentioned usage. The application can create sufficiently complex models in an environment already well-known for students.

The primary aim of this paper is to explore the modeling possibilities of the chosen spreadsheet software, Microsoft Excel. Secondly, we investigate the applicability of the created models in education. The research examines the creation of discrete time system specification (DTSS) models and attempts to create models described by differential equations (DESS). Lastly, we will discuss the regression models in the same environment.
