Abstract:
The training in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) of university research and teaching staff has become a pressing issue for many universities within the global trend for internationalisation in higher education. The national research Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in Russia with the University of Southampton (UoS) in the UK at present offers in-house language training provision including programmes designed in international partnership.
The organization of foreign language training provision starts with a needs analysis and finishes with feedback and monitoring the efficiency of the training programme, which includes analysis of the acquired skills and competences, together with assessment of the extent to which they have been implemented within university research and education activities. The complexity of integrated measures, that will allow for monitoring the implementation of study results in various areas of university activities, is discussed here, and it is argued that the practical nature and result-focused organisation of the training provision system in EMI is reflected in further collaborative initiatives and managerial decisions throughout the university which focus on enhancing university competitiveness and the facilitation of university internationalization processes. This paper is based on observations, analysis of TPU actual teaching experience and suggested managerial mechanisms to support the goals of university internationalisation. Keywords:
