Abstract:
Higher education must facilitate active, committed and responsible learning, so that it offers flexible responses to the demands of society. Competence-based education enables graduates to become professionals capable of leading significant transformations in order to collectively build an advanced, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable society. This is especially relevant in the field of Design Engineering, where specific competences are demanded, but also transversal competences such as creativity, innovation, teamwork, decision-making, social commitment, among others. The development of training competences is therefore becoming increasingly important in today's globalised, uncertain and fast-paced context. This is why educational strategies are increasingly focusing on the development of not only specific but also transversal competences. In this context, the aim of this paper is to find out how scientific research covering competences in higher education in the field of Design Engineering has developed. To achieve this objective, a bibliometric analysis has been developed based on the publications of the last ten years. The data were extracted from the Scopus database. The VoS Viewer software (Leiden University) was used to construct a scientific map showing the relationships between publications. The results of this analysis show the groupings by thematic cluster, author-document relationships, citations and institutions. It also identifies the journals with the highest number of publications and citations as well as the countries that lead the ranking of publications. This work offers a valuable contribution for teachers and researchers to complement or develop new lines of work in the field of training competences in design engineering. Keywords:
