Abstract:
The current situation in the world due to the pandemic that afflicts us has brought a radical change in the way of teaching in Higher Education Institutions. The lack of physical interaction affects the practical courses. The modality of conducting the teaching and learning process, BAOC (Big Academic Open Course), due to its characteristics, has become an excellent alternative. It required minimal adjustments to adapt to the new healthcare context. The objective is to carry out a comparative analysis of the application of the BAOC modality in an engineering course before and during the pandemic. BAOC was created to meet the demand of students who enroll in Engineering courses at the UAM (Metropolitan Autonomous University) Azcapotzalco Unit. BAOC is based on MOOC, b-learning and c-learning courses, applied to school courses. Its main strength is to optimize the use of physical and human resources, since it serves a large number of students, challenging the time-place paradigm. The results show an average approval rate of 69%, while the average retention rate is 59% during the health contingency period. 83% of students consider the modality useful, 71% would like to take other courses in this modality, and 87% said that it met their expectations satisfactorily. By performing hypothesis tests, the equivalence with traditional courses is validated, the satisfactory opinion of the students shows the success of the modality during the pandemic.
