Abstract:
In an organization like a faculty of education, the way inappropriate student behaviors be dealt with has a great importance due to the fact that the students are the prospective teachers of the near future and they need a decent teacher model in their classroom. In the Turkish universities, the issue of making a definition of inappropriate student behaviors has not been focused on yet. The purposes of the study are to determine, 1) the behaviors which disturb faculty members, 2) faculty members’ practices to cope with those behaviors 3) the effects of those practices on undergraduate students and finally 4) the students’ solution offers. The participants were the students from the departments of English Language and Literature of private and state universities who came to Selcuk University to participate in a program on pedagogical formation in the 2007-2008 academic year. The most prominent advantage of the study conducted by the participation of aforementioned students was the opportunity to make comparisons of practices observed in various universities. Conducting focus group interviews, data was obtained from 32 students from 7 different universities and was analyzed by two researchers independently. The results revealed that students were highly irritated by some specific ways of interventions and their suggestions may give fresh ideas for future research.
