Abstract:
The Malaysian education system has undergone a unique metamorphosis. The history of the Malaysian education system would highlight the stages in its reform, starting from a very traditional modes of learning and the content was naturally Islamic knowledge. The presence of the British changed many things. The British formulated their own policy and practice in education. Further developments took place after the Independence. The education system was reshaped based on a new mould – philosophically correct, conceptually modern, locally developed content and relevant to the actual need of the newly independent country. Colonial legacies and post-Independence formulations have strong influence and shaped the Malaysian education identity. Integrated approach is one of such formulations that give a new dimension to the Malaysian education foundation. Thus, the present work aims at analysing some relevant developments in the Malaysian education system. It will look at some foundational issues that contributed to the educational reform in Malaysia. Integrated approach is seen as one of the important parts of this reform.
