Abstract:
Community development should be conceived as an educational process for empowering and regenerating people towards development of their communities, and not as merely setting up of tangible infrastructural facilities. Rightly conceived and practiced, community development should be transformation of the attitudes of people in order to transform their communities. The Freirean Conscientization liberatory education model, originally based on the enrichment of adult literacy, was buttressed on the theory of praxis (action/reflection). This paper features the Freirean liberatory Conscietization model as a necessary approach to regenerate and empower people for community development undertakings.
