Abstract:
The idea of the innovative Warsaw Education Triptych – being part of the authorial package Project Warsaw – is a model of a project that is at the same time scientific, educational and social. It links fitness of the mind, including acquired knowledge, to real space. For students of Warsaw schools, a space of this kind, in the human dimension, is broadly perceived Warsaw, then Poland, Europe, The Earth.
Knowledge from practically all several score subjects taught, e.g. mathematics, history, natural sciences, geography and earth sciences, native tongue and foreign languages, physics, visual arts and art sciences, philosophy, logic, etc. is being replaced with interdisciplinary problem-focused teaching. The education project is based on the creation of cerebral associations with physical space expressed with the use of such modern tools as aerial and satellite photography as well as interactive image databases – they create active flip-boards and education spaces, a source of knowledge and space of own self-reliant activity. The student learns on his or her own and the teacher is primarily a guide and coach.
The continuum: I see – I think – I do, simply determines the perception of reality. The cognitive triad, being the basis of the Warsaw Education Triptych, described by a continuum of stages: I perceive sensorily – I analyze, I interpret and I draw conclusions – I make a decision and I do, is deeply rooted and repeated at all stages and levels of evolution. It is these processes that have determined the development of species and led in consequence to the formation of consciousness and the building of a world of ideas and the product of human activity – the civilization in which we live. The educational program of Warsaw Educational Triptych reproduce this process.
The introduction of the Warsaw Education Triptych into the didactic process helps not only acquire and remember information, but at the same time lays a foundation for broadening our knowledge about the world and building a more conscious and rational image if it. It can even be assumed that in the Warsaw Education Triptych the transfer of information and the garnering of knowledge is preceded by the formation of new competences: how to acquire knowledge and how to manage it.
The project has been elaborated for schools from the primary through academic level and is being successfully implemented in Warsaw schools together with Education Department of the Warsaw Municipal Government Office.
