Abstract:
The paper describes the teaching development program which has been implemented simultaneously with the new engineering program at the Siberian Federal University. The idea to introduce the engineering program on Metallurgy in the concept of Conceiving - Designing - Implementing - Operating (CDIO) at SibFU emerged in 2014 and requires faculty who is ready for changes. To support highly motivated teachers and enthusiastic engineering educators to actually perform this new program a development-oriented pedagogical program was created. The program has been focused on the preliminarily identified qualification gaps of the educators and aimed to create a pedagogical environment where the faculty staff can collaborate, strengthen pedagogical skills, cooperate and initiate educational projects. The outcomes of the teaching development program which are resulted in rethinking of the methodology used in engineering education, redesigning science and engineering courses and applying innovative methods have been discussed and evaluated by experts and students. In this paper, we also describe the changes that occurred in educational practices of the engineering program on Metallurgy as well as the challenges that educators had to overcome. Keywords:
Faculty development programme, pedagogical skills, engineering education.
