Abstract:

Effective communication between healthcare professionals and patients is a key component of high-quality obstetric care. Communication skills influence clinical decision-making, patient safety, and women’s experiences during pregnancy and childbirth. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to the development of training programs and interventions aimed at improving communication competencies among healthcare professionals working in obstetrics. However, the existing literature remains fragmented and varies in its approaches to communication training in maternity care. This study aims to explore and map the scientific literature addressing communication skills training and communication interventions in obstetric care. A structured literature search was conducted in the Web of Science database using keywords related to communication, training, interventions, and obstetrics. Relevant publications were screened based on their focus on communication skills or communication-related educational interventions within obstetric or maternity care settings. The selected literature was analyzed to identify key themes and approaches to communication training. Understanding how communication skills are addressed in obstetric care is essential for improving professional training and promoting patient-centred maternity care. Mapping the existing literature may contribute to identifying gaps and guiding the development of future communication training initiatives in obstetric practice.
