Abstract:
The contemporary scientific and professional practice emphasizes the ability of graduates to communicate in a foreign language. The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra supports this trend through the accredited study programs that are taught in the English language. In bachelor study programs, presented in English or Slovak language, compulsory mathematical subjects Mathematics IA and Mathematics IB are included in the first year of study. In these subjects final exams have a form of a test and students do not write long verbal statements in both study languages. The emphasis is placed on correctness of mathematical solution of the given tasks.
The assessment of the students’ knowledge level in compulsory subjects of Mathematics IA and Mathematics IB was the main goal of the pedagogical research carried out during the years 2016 - 2017. In the paper we present the main results obtained by analysing the pedagogical aspects of mathematics teaching in the English language. The comprehension of mathematical concepts by students and their skills to apply the exact procedures in task solution are important for the quality of mathematics teaching. The existence of dependence and the statistical significance of the differences between analysed data were examined by statistical hypothesis testing. In order to evaluate the results of the pedagogical research in the experimental and reference groups, the two-sample t-test was used. Keywords:
