Abstract:
One of the most relevant problems in the higher education, especially in Engineering or Technical careers is the rupture between theory and practice where students present problems when applying theoretical knowledge to the solution of real situations. This paper describes the comparison between project-based learning (PBL) and the traditional teaching method applied to students of the third semester of the electronics engineering in the Carlos Cisneros Higher Technological Institute.

The objective of this work is to analyze the academic performance and the result of the teaching and learning process of students in the course of analog and digital communications by applying the PBL. A comparative and experimental approach was used in the methodology. Two groups of ten students each were considered where only to one of them the PBL was applied

As a result, the students expressed their satisfaction, better school performance and greater theoretical Knowledge mastery at the time of the execution of the assigned project, demonstrating that they learn in a better way by doing, in addition, through this learning strategy, the student plans, implements and evaluates projects that can be applied in their daily lives.

Based on the results obtained in this work, it is intended to introduce the use of the PBL method in the teaching and learning process of all technical courses in the Carlos Cisneros Institute, as a key element in the training of its professionals. Its application will allow the development of competences in organizing, teamwork, autonomous learning and a structured approach for the execution of projects that strengthen its teaching-learning process. Finally, it can be said that for the application of this teaching technique, permanent training is required for teachers in this innovative methodology.
