Abstract:
First-year architecture students develop their professional skills by doing small-scale projects. They learn to research, observe, analyze and put their thoughts into drawings. Step by step information and abilities build up so that after two semesters they are able to communicate by using the language of the architects, hand-drawn sketches and technical drawings. One activity meant to use and apply the acquired knowledge is a two-week practical task taking place in summer, after the exam session. The mandatory activity is organized by the faculty and benefits from the tutoring of the design studio staff. The activity consists in measuring and drawing the plans, sections, facades and details of existing buildings. After a few years of surveying interiors, the task of 2022 took the students to the open air Ethnographic Park of Cluj-Napoca where they had the chance to rediscover through the eyes of the future architects the values of the traditional rural houses. The article focuses on the importance of this type of practical activity on the training of future architects analyzing all aspects of the enterprise from the cultural, to the environmental, technical and didactic aspects.
