Abstract:
Cultural heritage is becoming increasingly important in society, as well as in education. This is due to the existence of a new sensitivity becoming visible that expresses the social desire to preserve our rich heritage and democratize access to cultural assets.
There are several authors who focus their research on the application of heritage as a teaching resource, with the relationship between education and cultural heritage being a current topic. However, most of this research comes from the social sciences and art history, without any direct application in artistic education.
This paper focuses its attention on the architectural heritage and specifically that existing in the city of Valencia, to use it as a new educational environment, linked especially with artistic subjects, such as the subject of Plastic, Visual and Audiovisual Education. To this end, not only the heritage building will be valued, but also the artistic crafts that make it possible.
While urban plans change and many artistic and architectural pieces wait to be preserved, it is essential to claim and remember the role of heritage present in the city, in addition to understanding it not only as part of an urban plot, but as a space full of opportunities for learning.
Therefore, this research develops the previous points to propose a teaching guideline focused on artistic education. It will conclude with a proposal of a didactic itinerary that will encourage the students to learn, value and respect the architectural heritage and the arts and crafts that built this city. To appreciate a city's heritage, it is necessary to acquire the ability to recognize it.
In this way, the aim is to ensure our students to develop links of curiosity and affection with the urban spaces, heritage, crafts, and art of their city, through the experience generated by the architectural heritage as a new educational environment. Create an identity reference that intrinsically produces the desire and need to conserve our cultural legacy. Keywords:
