Abstract:
The purpose of this conceptual paper is to propose a preliminary concept of personal data ecosystem. Personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual, in other words data subject. While the relevance of personal data is recognized, the scientific knowledge of this area is still in its infancy. Similarly, at practical level, the value creation opportunities coming from personal data are very modest so far. First, this paper explains the contemporary development of increasing quantities of data in the world, which offers several opportunities for personal data services and ecosystems. Then, it reviews the literature of personal data by explaining the characteristics, potential and challenges of personal data. After that, it proposes a preliminary concept of a personal data ecosystem. Then, it draws the conclusions and suggests opportunities for further research. This paper is an example of results from a student project in the area of higher education of service design applied in ICT.
