Abstract:
Within globalization, information technology and communication (ICT) are considered to be the centre of the transformation and the catalyst, they are the key factor to understand and explain the current accelerated changes. ICTs are transforming society and in particular educational processes. In education the ICT are imposing as didactic elements, both in University campuses and in open and distance higher education systems. UNESCO has special interest for teachers to use digital technology effectively to help students develop intellectual capacities. The present paper is a descriptive investigation intended to inform and motivate University teachers to use educational technology in everyday practice since its use certainly helps education. The first aspect to be treated is the digital divide, which is the distance between people or countries that have access to ICT and those who do not, it is also explained how the problem of access to the usage of the ICT has worldwide been spread. The second aspect dealt with is the advantages of the use of ICT in education as tools of information management and knowledge creation. Also the reality of the use of ICT in higher education in Mexico is mentioned, the theoretical foundations and finally, due to the decisive role of the teacher in this process of change, some points such as including digital games as learning dynamics are proposed to improve the work of the teacher as the designer of new learning environments.
