Abstract:
Research suggests that physical learning environments are essential in developing academic potentials and a good working environment. There are little informed feedbacks on the performance of the physical learning environment of the department of architecture building in Nigeria by users to the design professionals. Also, little empirical data exists that supports the building performance of this academic building for training architects. This study investigated the performance in use of the Caleb University Architecture building to provide a helpful framework in design guidance for future similar physical learning facilities. The research design was primarily a case study, with the quota sampling technique used in selecting respondents. Primary data were obtained through structured questions administered to 78 users of the building. Data were analysed by using descriptive statistics on the SPSS version 20.0. The study considered Design Quality (DQ), Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), and Quality of Building Support Services (QBSS) as primary indicators of the physical well-being of users. Results revealed a moderate level of users' satisfaction with the building's DQ, IEQ, and QBSS. However, the overall building performance of the building was below average. Conclusions from the study imply the need for an upgrade in the existing facility to enhance building performance for physical learning.
