Abstract:
This paper investigates the perceptions of the three cohorts of participants- pupils, teachers, and employers (regarded as stakeholders in education) on the explicit role of ICT towards the development of employability skills in eight schools from one local council in Scotland. The paper also investigates the current strategies adopted by the teachers on ICT use in school and its appropriateness in developing and supporting skills relevant to pupils study goals. Using evidence from the questionnaire completed by 1364 students and 40 teachers from eight secondary schools and 17 employers as a first phase in an explanatory sequential mixed method approach, this paper highlights the descriptive analysis of the survey results on the perceptions of students, teachers and employers. It recommends strategies for the effectiveness of ICT use and the development of employability skills in school towards a more positive destination of young school leavers.
