Abstract:
The main thrust of this paper is to examine the obstacles to quality vocational education in Nigerian universities. The population of the study consisted of all universities of science and technology in Nigeria. A sample of 2500 respondents was randomly selected from the population. Questionnaires were used for data collection. The respondents were requested to identify the obstacles to quality vocational education in Nigeria on four point scale of Strongly Agree=4, Agree=3, Disagree=2, and Strongly Disagree=1. A mean score of 3 was regarded as the minimum score for any item to be accepted as an obstacle. The major findings of the study is that social attitude towards the subjects, stratification of subjects inadequate practical work, inadequate industrial work experience, inadequate funding, lack of qualified lecturers and poorly–equipped laboratory/ workshops are serious obstacles to quality vocational education in Nigerian Universities
