Abstract:
The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has revolutionized writing instruction, offering students personalized feedback, automation of assessments, and real-time support. However, these advancements raise critical ethical concerns regarding student autonomy, academic integrity, bias, and privacy. This presentation explores the dual role of AI in writing instruction—whether it empowers students by enhancing their learning experience or undermines their critical thinking and originality. Drawing from recent studies, we will examine how AI-driven writing tools shape student writing habits, their ethical implications, and the role of educators and policymakers in mitigating risks. The session will also discuss best practices for responsible AI use, ensuring that AI supports rather than replaces essential writing skills. Attendees will gain a nuanced understanding of AI's impact on writing education and strategies to navigate its ethical challenges in academic settings.

At the end of the presentation, the attendees will gain the following learning objectives:
1. Identifying Ethical Concerns in AI Integration
2. Discussing Policy and Pedagogical Implications
3. Developing Strategies for Responsible AI Use
