Abstract:
The article presents the experience of the authors in the field of teaching the translators and masters of dubbing. Kazan Federal University (Russia) educates students in various fields including translation and interpreting. As any activity translation has various fields such as translation and interpreting, translation of informative texts and translation of fiction, poetry and others. One of the specializations is audiovisual translation which is highly demanded in modern world. The video market has increased greatly and it needs video games, movies, cartoons, educating programs and the other products of video industry to be translated into the languages world. So teaching to translate video products expands the opportunities for translators to find a job including a virtual format that is essential in today’s conditions. In foreign countries there are a lot of schools that educate translators majoring in audiovisual translation but in Russia the situation in this field is of another kind. Unfortunately the curricula of Russian universities do not have a course of audiovisual translation but recently two or three universities of Russia launched the program of audiovisual translation trying to be in line with market demand. The authors of the article also made attempts to launch some elements of this type of translation. We started with documentaries taken from the program of Kazan International Muslim Film Festival which motto is “Through the dialog of cultures to a culture of a dialog.” One of the authors has been working as a translator at this festival, which is held in Kazan annually. Involving our students in the process of translation of documentaries we set the objectives of training professional skills and competences and we wanted also to develop a sense of tolerance towards the views of other peoples. Moreover we work together with the students from the Kazan University of Art and Culture specializing in dubbing as translation of film. The results of Universities interaction showed high motivations among students of both universities as well as improvement of professional skills. Thus, we found that a joint work of universities is an efficient method in teaching that allows students to see the results of their work. In addition, documentaries or educational films translated by the students can be used in the other classes in order to educate the students of different specialties.
