Abstract:
The research is aimed to analyze the level of quality of physical activity and sleep regime in 4th-year primary school students in relation to their health and expand knowledge in the field of lifestyle indicators.
The sample consisted of 625 respondents. All respondents were 4th-year students of selected primary schools.
The main methods of obtaining empirical data were the survey method (lifestyle questionnaire) and somatometry method. The questionnaire consisted of 26 questions divided into four sections: basic characteristics of the student, physical activity, sleep regime, and the student's knowledge and views on health. The somatometry method was used to determine the body weight and height of students, based on which BMI was calculated, and according to percentiles, students were classified into four groups - underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obesity. Quantitative methods, descriptive and inductive statistics methods, were used for the data processing and evaluation. From qualitative methods, we used analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, comparison, and generalization.
In the field of physical activities, we found that the respondents from the sample group were physically active, especially in physical education and sports classes in schools. Furthermore, their exercise regime is complemented by physical activities and activities with the family or activities within the sports club. Therefore, it is the hours of physical and sports education and activities within the sports club or section that acknowledge the respondents’ answers that their physical activity is regular and organized.
An evaluation of sleep questions showed that about 15% of respondents do not have a sufficient length of sleep on a working day, which is at least 8 hours for this age group. We consider disturbing the finding that almost half of the respondents, especially on weekdays wake up during the night, which may result from mental stress during the day.
The topic of health is in the attention of respondents. They listed the Internet, print sources, parents, and school as a source of information in this area. However, they most often associate health with physical activity and diet. Keywords:
