DICTIONARY OF TERMS AS A TOOL IN ONLINE LEARNING

Abstract:
In the context of modern changes in science and education, the issue of introducing digital technologies both in training and in research activities (independent and joint) of teachers and students is of no means acute. The necessary basis for this kind of activity is the knowledge of the terminology systems of the specialized fields. The article is devoted to an overview of the existing approaches to the description of terminological systems for educational purposes.

It is known that European lexicography is distinguished by many years of work on the creation of electronic dictionaries, which are becoming not only a dictionary resource, but also a popular tool for language learning. Dictionaries of this type are supplemented with illustrations, audio tracks, interactive games and tasks that contribute to the better assimilation of new vocabulary. Open access to these online resources increases interest to learning a foreign language.

Russia has also accumulated considerable experience in creating educational dictionaries, including linguistic ones. The article provides an overview of the most significant works in this area, their advantages and disadvantages. However, in Russia there are no authoritative resources of this type for the subject area ‘Linguistics’. This gap is partly filled by lexicographic platforms created by Internet users, which do not represent the language of professional communication. Currently, there is a need to create a unified electronic dictionary combining the key terms of the main areas of modern linguistics. This dictionary should contain articles with the interpretation of terms, accompanied by an illustration of their functioning in certain scientific texts. The basic principles of creating a new type of dictionary and its use in the educational process are presented in the article.

The methodology of our research involves working in groups with international students. In order to create a dictionary for our students, we are planning to make a selection of texts by linguists in the main areas of scientific research. The terminology in these texts will be described in dictionary entries containing links to these texts. The list of terms will be combined vertically by subject matter and horizontally by level of Russian language proficiency.

The result will be a new tool for effective language learning for specific purposes in the field of "Linguistics".

In addition, we offer recommendations for using a new type of vocabulary for working in international student groups.
